About Susan Snipes
Artist’s Statement
My art is a quest for transformation in a time of ecological and spiritual concern. I employ intuitive and experimental approaches to process and materials, drawing on influences that include earth sciences, ecofeminism, and mythology. Through scale, natural pattern, and repetition, I explore connections that cross time and species. The interplay of control, resistance, and chance alludes to the flow of life.
I engage various materials, including found objects, hand-made natural inks, beeswax crayons, and mineral pigments from foraged and local sources. My most recent works are informed by my attachment to Northeast Ohio, using regional materials and imagery that echo the place's color, texture, and story.
